Define the technical vision, strategy and roadmap in alignment with business stakeholders
Oversee all engineering operations and ensure that initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards
Manage the engineering team and ensure that team members are working effectively to deliver high-quality projects
Develop and implement engineering processes and procedures to improve efficiency, quality and security of engineering operations
Partner with the business to understand customer and business needs and deliver products that meet those needs
Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices and ensure that the engineering team is following these
Ensure that the engineering team is following all relevant regulations and standards, including safety regulations and industry standards
Manage the engineering budget, including setting budgets for individual initiatives and ensure that spending is within budgeted amounts

About Daunia Mine: Daunia is an established operation in the Bowen Basin, which has been producing high quality metallurgical coal for the export market since 2013. It is located south-east of Moranbah, adjacent to Whitehaven’s existing Winchester South development project. Daunia features state-of-the-art infrastructure and mining operations, including well-established autonomous equipment and infrastructure.
About the Role
Leading the engineering and technology team you will be working in an exciting, fast-paced team environment which is dynamic and strives to continuously improve.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead a team or teams focused on the design, optimisation, planning and scheduling of engineering projects and the production, development and management of autonomous mobile and fleet systems in line with requirements.
What You’ll Do
Conduct engineering tasks, verifying construction methodologies and advising on engineering decisions for projects in alignment with Project / Construction / Commissioning Engineering Standards.
Explore and iteratively reassess best fit solutions, taking ownership of project decisions and outcomes, whilst monitoring and managing impact to value across the project lifecycle.
Develop integrated project deliverables and associated work across site through interfacing with stakeholders and managing the successful transition of projects.
Develop, commission and maintain high performance fleet/traffic control systems to control mobile and fleet systems (e.g. drill rigs, surface mining equipment) at desired levels of performance.
Install, conduct verification/functional testing and regular post-installation calibration of automated equipment to optimise the safety and performance of automated operations.
Translate site and corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing and analysing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy.
What You’ll Bring
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, or a similar qualification is required.
Experience in engineering leadership roles either in the resource or heavy industry sector and can demonstrate how you have utilised your technical and project management skills to lead teams through engineering activities, projects, standards and governance to positively and safely impact a business.
A strong understanding of the project lifecycle, value levers and have proven success in delivering projects of varying size and complexity.
Experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems is desirable but not essential.
Ability to adhere and live the Whitehaven Values and contribute to a collaborative organisational culture.
