Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

Coordinating professional development and education initiatives for Pre-Op, PACU, and Operating Room staff.
Coordinating Total Joint Program activities for the center including, but not limited to:
Developing and implementing standard procedures and policies
Ensuring resources are allocated to the review of total joint patient information as cases are posted and to patient clearances via Pre-Op calls
Coordinating with Total Joint Replacement surgeons and support staff to ensure consistency in patient care, communications, and policies
Conducting analysis to identify and implement quality / process improvement initiatives to improve total joint outcomes, surgeon satisfaction, and patient satisfaction scores
Ensure all Total Joint patients complete the ambulation protocol before discharge and all educational requirements are complete.
Train and mentor other teammates as necessary to assist in the ambulation protocol and educational requirements before discharge.
Overseeing and assisting in coordinating current and future technology initiatives center wide for the Total Joint Program
Assessing current sets of orders, discharge instructions, etc. within ScanChart; update / maintain as needed to reflect surgeon requirements
Additional support for caring for patients in both Pre-Op and PACU as needed
Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient advocate.
Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
Communicating the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.
Providing acute pain and comfort management as needed.
Performing interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
Performing interventions to protect patient from infection.
Managing patient’s other co-morbid conditions as applicable.
Assessing knowledge level of patient or designated support person
Providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain and comfort management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure;
Involving patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
Protecting patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice;
Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
Assess patient status throughout the episode of care
Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer (eg, Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [ie, PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White) score accurately as defined by organizational policy.
Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care by implementing:
Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
Transfer care as needed.
Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care.
Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions.
Document episode of care completely, accurately, and legibly.
Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders
Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
Maintain required competencies.
Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Comply with all SCA and facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
Five plus years of relevant experience including 1 to 2 years as a supervisor
Pre Op/PACU and/or OR experience preferred.
Current state licensure to practice within good standings.
Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) with documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification.
Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
Proficiency in computer skills
