Job Title: Middle School STEAM Specialists- part time/temporary

Reports To: Middle School Program Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Pay rate: $30.00/hour

Hours: 2:30 PM-6:30 PM Monday-Wednesday (approx. 12 hours/week).

Summary/Objective:

The part time STEAM Specialist (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) will be responsible for the implementation of the Middle School Choice Academies, a STEAM focused program focused on career exploration. Academies meet 2/week for 50 minutes and are led by volunteer, industry professionals. Academies include but are not limited to Coding, Culinary Arts, Podcasting, Photography, 3D printing, Painting, Fashion Design, Drumming, Stop Animation, and more. The position will begin in November 2023 and will conclude on July 26, 2024. The position may be renewed based on funding and program needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Investigate potential Choice Academies based on student interest surveys.
  • Connect with industries and industry professionals to provide volunteers and field trip experiences.
  • Explore partnerships with potential organizations who could benefit the program,
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Engagement team to source volunteer facilitators.
  • Create curriculum to support STEAM learning.
  • Enroll students into Choice Academies based on student choice rankings.
  • Inventory and maintain all equipment and materials related to Choose Academies.
  • Document program policies and procedures.
Implementing
  • Onboard volunteers to ensure a successful Choice Academy session.
  • Ensure that career connections are being made in lesson plans and field trips.
  • Monitor lesson plans and instruction and make corrections as needed.
  • Teach classes when needed.
  • Advertise, plan, and facilitate the quarterly Choice Academy Showcases.
  • Collaborate with the Fund Development Team to secure judges for the quarterly showcases.
Evaluating
  • Administer pre and post student surveys.
  • Gather feedback from staff and volunteers to improve the program.
  • Provide success stories to validate the program’s success.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a STEAM related program is required.
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of instructional experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a STEAM field or course of study.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated understanding of STEAM principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to create project-based learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan STEAM programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan events.
  • Collaborative spirit to work with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong communication skills- both written and verbal.
  • Strong technical skills to operate equipment such as robots, drones, 3D printers, digital cameras, computers, etc.
