Stanford University- School of Medicine- Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Financial Analyst 1 to perform moderately complex finance functions and/or activities related to sponsored research budgeting and forecasting requiring award management knowledge, skills, and broad application of policies, precedents, and systems within the context of internal department policies and external regulations. The analyst will perform various professional finance and accounting functions that include reconciliations, financial interpretation and analysis of sponsored research projects, federal and non-federal sponsored research projects, and support to individual faculty within their portfolio assignments. In addition, this role will work with the Associate Director of Finance on special projects involving ad hoc financial reports and analysis.


Duties include:

  • Perform financial analysis; conduct data mining; identify, clarify, and investigate account discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.
  • Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts, utilizing financial reports, databases, and critical financial information.
  • Contribute to the development of budgets, forecasting, and analyses to be used for key activities or decision-making.
  • Run and analyze financial reports, often from multiple systems; assist in preparing management information reports.
  • Resolve issues within the immediate work unit; Perform preliminary analysis, recognize exceptions, and recommend solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes.
  • Participate as a member of the department finance team and contribute to financial management strategy through communication and collaboration with others.
  • Serve as a first-line resource to principal investigators and staff on financial matters in the work unit.
    Understand and participate in cross-training on core functions in the work area or unit; serve as a backup to other functions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • User knowledge and demonstrated experience of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Understanding and ability to apply basic accounting skills and concepts.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
  • Basic project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a project team.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly sitting.
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely reach/work above shoulder.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role is fully remote with the expectation that the analyst will be available during regular working hours from Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $67,000 to $100,000 per annum.
