Medica is a non-profit health insurance company headquartered in Minnetonka with offices in Madison and Omaha. The company is active across the heart of America and provider health care coverage in multiple markets. Medica is engaged in our communities through the charitable grant-making work of the Medica Foundation and through active employee giving and volunteer programs.

Medica will host a 12-week, paid Internship Program. Interns will have the opportunity to network within Medica and with other Interns through weekly Lunch-and-Learns and opportunities to hear from Executives. We strive to offer a well-rounded education of the inner workings of a health plan. Each internship offers a meaningful experience and impactful projects you will be able to discuss with future employers. At Medica, we look forward to our Summer Internship Program each year.

Department Introduction:

The Strategic Accounts Intern will support the Markets Growth & Retention- Strategic team. Segments include: Commercial Markets. The Intern will work supporting the Strategic Account Executive (SAE) and Strategic Account Manager (SAM) teams and projects to support strategic retention. The Strategic Accounts Intern will have opportunities to learn about the planning and preparing for key customer meetings, how to create professional, meaningful meeting content, and how to position data to help customers understand trends. They will work alongside key stakeholders from Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations, Information Technology, Pharmacy and Compliance/Legal.

Gained Experience:

The Strategic Accounts Intern will assist with these projects during their tenure with the team:

  • Run customer reports to support the move to a new customer reporting tool. Ensure accuracy of output. Update customer year-over-year cost trend information
  • Quarterly client dashboard updates
  • Review annual benefit change documentation
  • Provide support to the strategic team by understanding job functions, assisting in processing requests and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Refine external facing communication tools to ensure consistency and professional appearance

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior pursuing Bachelor's Degree or Graduate Degree.
  • Business Administration, Management, Health Care, Sales, Marketing, Communications or related field of study.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience in Sales, Marketing, Customer Service or similar field(s) preferred, but not required
  • Professional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Team player
  • Strong self-management skills and ability to prioritize and manage time
  • Proficient technical/computer skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office.
    • Heavy emphasis on Power Point and Excel
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong math skills and ability to validate report accuracy
  • Passion for process improvement and execution.

This position is a Hub role, which requires an employee to occasionally come onsite to the Minnetonka office for applicable heads-up work. Frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.
