The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Lead Developer, Web & Mobile Applications for our Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).
Starting base salary = $100,000 - $125,000 (commensurate with related experience).

The Lead Developer, Web & Mobile Applications is responsible for acting as the lead for day-to-day operations involved with developing new and maintaining existing customer facing web/mobile applications by analyzing business requirements and priorities and translating that input into an effective user experience. Architects and develops advanced web and mobile applications with an emphasis on clean code, performance, security, and usability. Provides technical leadership and coaching to the team and consulting services across the organization, as well as contributes to the strategic planning process for this team. Guides and assists colleagues on issues related to development and deployment of web and mobile solutions critical to AHA's operations. Coaches developers through the full project implementation cycle and will have the overall responsibility of ensuring all technical development projects are successfully planned and launched.

Leads activities related to monitoring, analysis, design, development, and implementation of AHA’s web/mobile solutions. Provides technical leadership related to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of web/mobile applications, products, or solutions as assigned by manager. Guides the development team through prioritization and resolution of issues related to mission-critical web and mobile solutions.

Architects and develops complex web and mobile applications. Writes and maintains efficient, reusable, and reliable code. Develops and executes technical proof of concepts.
Maintains processes used by development teams to ensure adherence to industry best practices and AHA security/compliance policies. Ensures team activities align properly with all AHA policies, including security and compliance policies.
Produces ad-hoc reports and support for management approval processes, documenting feasibility, impact, and urgency of recommendations as it relates to level of effort, customer impact, supportability, and human/financial resource needs. Analyzes existing applications and recommends improvements for these systems. Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools or applications to increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of day-to-day web development efforts.
Initiates and participates in projects to evaluate technologies and identify methods for implementing these solutions; creates and executes project work plans to meet changing needs and requirements. Ensures that development projects meet business requirements and goals, refine end- user requirements as needed, identify and resolve systems issues, conduct pre-testing of systems and make proper modifications.
Conducts code and technical design reviews to ensure efficient testing and code promotion occurs; oversees adherence of web/mobile efforts to proper change control processes and approvals the development team must follow, escalating as necessary to the infrastructure, network, security, and business application teams to ensure the health and quality of systems, infrastructure, and processes (e.g., code review, testing, deployment, etc.).
Maintains job expertise by tracking emerging web/mobile technologies, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Creates, plans, configures and implements solutions for web applications. Develop techniques, tools, and standards to support assigned projects. Researches new functionality and/or enhancements for existing tools and processes. Leads internal quality assurance reviews, analysis/design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation for web development activities. Performs system administrative duties as needed.
Works with a variety of operating units and vendors to develop, implement, and support web systems/applications. Trains colleagues, which includes but is not limited to: knowledge transfer for IT support purposes as well as training staff on tools used to manage website content.
Acts as project manager for assigned projects that includes leading project requirements gathering sessions, developing project plans and participate in vendor engagements to ensure alignment with best-practices and AHA standards. Leads establishment of technical specifications and documentation based on business and functional requirements. Responsible for delivery of projects within allocated budgets/schedules, providing technical leadership, and promoting a positive working relationship between the project team and the customer.
5+ Years managing Content Management Systems (Drupal experience and certifications a plus)

3+ Years Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP (LAMP or LEMP) development experience a plus.

Experience
Required
5 - 7 years: Minimum 5 years of experience with web development and some experience with mobile application development. Project management experience is required. Vast experience in gathering/analyzing business requirements and translating to technical tasks to meet strategic goals of development efforts. Experience with informally leading development team members is required.
