Minnesota Math Corps

Become a Math Corps Tutor and Change Lives

Minnesota Math Corps is an AmeriCorps program that provides trained math tutors for students grades four through eight and continues to grow its base of tutors and students every year. Since 2007, Math Corps has reached more than 4,500 students by training and placing much-needed tutors in schools across Minnesota. Minnesota Math Corps started in 2008 in the St. Cloud School District in partnership with St. Cloud State University. Math Corps has expanded into new sites each year, with 200 tutors currently serving in more than 100 sites statewide.

AmeriCorps, often called the “domestic Peace Corps”, is a network of national service programs that engage more than 75,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. Created in 1993, AmeriCorps is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which also oversees Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America. Together these programs engage more than 2 million Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service each year. Individuals who serve in local programs like Minnesota Math Corps are making a commitment to give of themselves to make an impact in our community. They believe that they can make a difference – that it is our world and our chance to make it better.

Our goal is to ensure Minnesota students are algebra-ready by eighth grade and to set them up for success in a world increasingly dependent on understanding math concepts. As an AmeriCorps program, we are seeing real results. The challenges are very real, but if you have the energy and the attitude, we provide the training and support you need to help students grow their math skills.
