NOOK

No company has gained market share faster in the exploding market for digital content than Barnes & Noble. Our first digital bookstore premiered in August 2009, followed shortly by the launch of the first version of our branded electronic reader, NOOK®, in November 2009. Since that time, we have grown our market share of eBooks and digital magazines to close to 30%, a significantly higher share than we ever had in physical books. NOOK devices, which include our NOOK Tablet™, NOOK Color Reader’s Tablet™ and NOOK Simple Touch Reader™, are now widely viewed as the most innovative reading devices in the market, with Consumer Reports and noted technology reviewer CNET giving NOOK their highest ratings. Our NOOK Bookstore™ features more than 2 million titles for sale and download and offers more of the top 100 magazine titles for subscription and download than any other digital bookstore. In addition, NOOK eReading applications support consumers accessing their libraries and reading their digital books on over 400 mobile devices including: iPad™, iPhone®, PC, and Android™, to name a few.

E-commerce

Our online channel, BN.com, the “Internet’s largest bookstore,” offers the largest in-stock selection of in-print book titles, with access to approximately 1 million titles for immediate delivery and more than 30 million listings from our nationwide network of out-of-print, rare and used book dealers. BN.com offers customers fast delivery, easy and secure ordering and rich editorial content. And we are increasingly expanding into non-media categories like Toys & Games and Home & Gift and seeing double-digit growth in these categories.
