Write a CAN DO Cover Letter!

During tough economic times job interviews are difficult to land, and some of them more so than others depending on the industry that interests you. Your cover letter must show who you are as a person, as well as a professional. Be sure to add examples and statements that communicate clearly that you’re someone who is eager to work hard, meet expectations, help advance the company’s bottom line, get along with colleagues, and promote harmony wherever you are.

I call this a CAN DO cover letter because it lets the employer know that you can do the work required of the position he or she wants to fill. (more…)

How to write an amazing internship cover letter

 

A cover letter for an internship highlights the answers to 3 main questions:

1. What is your reason to pursue the internship program? The answer to this question will include details such as ‘what do you know about the program?’ and ‘how it is of interest to you?’

2. What is your reason to pursue the internship with a specific employer? You can write about ‘what you know about this employer?’ and why you have chosen an internship rather than a full-time program?

3. How will you best use this internship opportunity to excel in your career? You can answer with details about your short-term and long-term goals. (more…)

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard some variation of the phrase, “I majored in _______, therefore I feel my career options are limited.”

That statement is not only illogical, but it couldn’t be further from reality.  Regardless of what it says on your degree, you could and should still relentlessly pursue your professional interests.

Though, if you want to be successful in chasing those dreams, you are going to have to learn how to write an above average resume.
