Average Starting Salary for Grads With Bachelor’s Degrees Rises 2.4 Percent

There is good news for 2013 college graduates with bachelor’s degrees concerning starting salaries for their entry level jobs.

The overall average starting salary for Class of 2013 college graduates earning bachelor’s degrees has increased 2.4 percent over last year, according to a new report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

NACE’s September 2013 Salary Survey found that the average starting salary for Class of 2013 college graduates stands at $45,327, up from the average salary of $44,259 for Class of 2012 graduates. (more…)

Nearly two-thirds of graduating seniors from the Class of 2013 took part in an internship or a cooperative education assignment during their years pursuing a bachelor’s degree, according to results of a survey of college students by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). NACE’s 2013 Student Survey found that 63.2 percent of graduating seniors from the Class of 2013 reported having taken part in an internship, co-op, or both. “This represents the highest overall participation rate since we began tracking this with the Class of 2007,” says Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director. That’s the good news and, by way of context, only 57 percent of the Class of 2008 reported having  taken part in an internship, co-op, or both.

More than half of internships by Class of 2013 graduating seniors were performed at for-profit, private-sector organizations (56.3 percent). The remaining internships were undertaken at nonprofits (28.1 percent) and state, local, or federal government agencies (15.7 percent). (more…)

The average salaries for bachelor’s and master’s degree interns held steady this year, according to a new survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). NACE’s 2013 Internship & Co-op Survey found that the average salary for bachelor’s degree interns ticked up just 0.3 percent to $16.26 per hour from $16.21 per hour last year.

“However, interns in several majors at the bachelor’s degree level earned average salaries that topped $18 an hour,” notes Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director.

Engineering ($20.36), computer science ($18.96), and mathematics ($18.15) majors had the highest average hourly wages among bachelor’s degree level interns. (more…)

Technical majors head the list of highest-paid majors for the college Class of 2013, according to a new report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

In particular, NACE’s April 2013 Salary Survey—the first look at starting salaries for the Class of 2013—found that seven engineering majors are among the 10 top-paid for the college Class of 2013. (See Figure 1.)

“Engineering majors are consistently among the highest paid because the demand for them is so great,” says Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director. (more…)

Employers Expect to Hire 2.1% More Grads, Down From 13% In Fall

Employers say they expect their college hiring levels to remain relatively flat, according to a new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Employers taking part in NACE’s Job Outlook Spring Update survey say they will hire 2.1 percent more new college grads from the Class of 2013 than they hired from the Class of 2012. That’s down from the 13 percent increase they projected in the fall of 2012. (more…)

The average starting salary for new college graduates earning bachelor’s degrees has increased 5.3 percent over last year, according to a new report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

NACE’s April 2013 Salary Survey—the first look at starting salaries for the Class of 2013—found that the average starting salary for these college graduates stands at $44,928, up from the 2012 average salary of $42,666.

“The sizable gains in several disciplines—particularly in health sciences and business—have helped to drive up the average starting salary for the Class of 2013,” says Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director. (more…)
