Advice for Employers and Recruiters

3 tips from DealDrop on how employers can use benefits to attract recent college grads

It is often said that recent graduates must be able to “stand out” in a crowded job market. While this is still true, the opposite is also becoming increasingly important. With recent graduates being more and more selective, employers must begin to find interesting and unique ways to attract and retain talent. In the words of College Recruiter’s Founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Steven Rothberg, “companies have gotten away with treating employees like crap and paying them like crap for far too long.” He continues to press that this will no longer work in today’s market.

College Recruiter recently asked experts for three benefits, in addition to better pay, that employers can offer to attract and retain recent college graduates.

Here are three tips from James Crawford, Co-Founder of shopping vouchers website DealDrop:

  1. Offer the option to work remotely or on a hybrid model.  The pandemic has shown that most businesses can still run efficiently when the workforce is out of the office. The benefits have been widely discussed and today’s graduates have been studying at home for some time now. The option to continue this remote existence into their career may be enough to tempt some of your targets to consider your company. Offer as much flexibility for remote work and with shift patterns as possible.
  2. Now that they have graduated, they want to know that they will have the chance to advance their careers.  Offer a graduate training program to allow your new hire to gain experience in all areas of the business and build some contacts. Arrange for a mentor to advise and guide the graduates to ensure they are reaching their goals.
  3. Promote your company culture. Young people today are far more aware of the impact business can have on the planet and the population. Ensure that your business has the ethics and values your candidates aspire to. Provide the opportunity for employees to interact for both work and social reasons. Give the employees the option to help shape and promote the public image of the company.
