Should I include my high school when applying to a college internship?

At College Recruiter, we tell the students and recent graduates who use our job search site that a resume is not an alibi. 

In other words, it is not supposed to account for where you’ve been and what you’ve done over a period of time. Instead, it is a sales document that should allow an employer within seconds to determine if you meet the requirements and perhaps also some of the preferences. If your work or educational experiences help in that regard, include them. If not, at least minimize and perhaps even exclude them. Minimizing is more appropriate when to exclude them would create a large gap in your resume.

If the student excelled in high school and that would increase their chances of being interviewed then they should include that part of their academic history. But if the employer is unlikely to care where they went to high school or what they accomplished then the student should exclude it. More is not better. The more info you include in a sales document, the more distractions you create for the reader. The more distractions you create for the reader, the less likely they are to fully appreciate the most important elements.
