The Importance of Having the Best Possible Recruiter Experience

A large part of the buzz amongst talent acquisition and recruiting leaders these days is around the candidate experience. Making the process of applying, being hired, and trained friendlier to the candidate creates measurable improvements in time-to-hire, cost-per-hire, and quality-of-hire. However, what about the recruiter experience? Isn’t it just as important that the process work well for the recruiter too?

In today’s webinar, Andrea McEwen Henderson, National Account Manager for College Recruiter hosts College Recruiter President Steven Rothberg, who will discuss the importance of the recruiter experience to College Recruiter.

Topics Discussed:

  1. What is the recruiter experience?
  • It’s just as important for the recruiter to have a good experience as it is for the candidate to have one. The recruiter should have a positive and enjoyable hiring, soliciting, advertising, interviewing, and going through the selection process.

  1. Why is the recruiter experience important?
  • It’s important because there are two sides to the employment equation, there’s the candidate side and the employer side who is represented by the recruiter. If the candidate is treated well, you’re going to get more high quality candidates coming into your interviews, going to second or third interviews, to starting and staying for a long period of time.
  • The other side is true as well, on the recruiter side, if the tools used by the recruiter are cumbersome then it makes it much less likely that that recruiter will be able to do what they should be doing. The things they should do are things like: spending time with the candidate, talking with them, and engaging with them. If those recruiters have to struggle with the tools they are using then that takes time away from working with the candidates; and from hiring the best possible candidates. We try very hard to maximize the experience of the recruiters; automated systems will post all of their jobs to our site, to give them more time to focus on the more important part of their job.

3. Why are so few people talking about it?

  • It’s unfortunate, but I think some companies don’t have the same level of connections with the process of how much the recruiters have to do.

  1. What can employers do to improve the recruiter experience?
  • Encourage those recruiters to get the training that’s available for the tools they’re using. Spend the time to train your recruiters on the applicant tracking systems so when they are actually doing the job it is much easier and quicker, saving you both time and saving you money.

  1. What are some examples of things that we have done to improve the experience of recruiters using College Recruiter?
  • A few years ago, we created a product that recently is called an All You Can Eat Job-Posting Package. In this is what some people call a wrap and some call it a scrape. Basically it means if the employer has 350 jobs on their website and they want to post all of their jobs that are appropriate for college students and recent graduates on our website, that might be 200 of those 350 jobs. Even if it only takes the recruiter only a minute or two to post each of those jobs to our site, that is a days work.
  • What we do is fully automate that process, we filter out the one that take four or more years of experience and run the rest. Within usually three business days we have all of your postings up, and then every single day the automated systems go to the employer’s website. They look at the jobs on the employer’s site and compare them to the jobs on our site and if they’re different, we change ours to match the employer’s. So that means we will add, edit, or even inactivate a job posting on our site to line up with what the employer has.
  • For this example, the employer that has 200 jobs to post to our site, even if it’s just two minutes a job, we saved that recruiter 400 minutes or more. That is very positive for the recruiter experience.
