Now that you have graduated from college, as a recent graduate your focus has been on finding an entry level job.  However, there seems to be one problem: you can’t get any job interviews.  With the economy seeming to make a strong comeback, that means the job market will be very competitive.  You must stand out to potential employers as an ideal candidate to secure an interview.  If you’re having trouble getting one, it may be for one or more of the following reasons.

Your resume is not appealing – If your resume is not attractive to the eye or in the content, a potential employer will be turned off from you as a job seeker.  Make sure it is legible and clean, and has information relevant to the specific position you are applying for.

You’re searching for the wrong jobs – While certain jobs might look good on paper, you know whether or not you’re actually qualified to do them.  Unless you plan on improving your qualifications for a particular job, don’t waste your time or a potential employer’s time.  Search for jobs based on your skills and interests.  Not only will you put yourself in a better position to succeed, but you will be much happier in the long run.

Your job search is not broad enough – Are you limiting the places you search for jobs?  If so, you are likely also limiting opportunities for interviews.  Consider using social media sites like LinkedIn and attend networking events where you can meet potential contacts for your job search.

You’re expecting too much too soon – Even though you would love to find your dream job to start your career, don’t be disappointed if you do not.  There is nothing wrong with starting from the bottom and working your way up the ladder of success.  With hard work, you will eventually get to where you want to be.

You’re not getting help – There may be a time during your job search when you need some help.  So, ask for it.  Talk to your family, friends, and anyone else who you feel comfortable with.  You may be surprised at who can provide you with assistance to put you one step closer to a new job.

If you’re a recent graduate not landing job interviews, then it is probably time to change how you search for jobs.  In a competitive job market, you need to stand out from other job seekers to gain the attention of employers.  Make the necessary adjustments in your job search, and improve your chances of getting more interviews, including the one that will lead to a job offer.
