Medical Transcriptionist

Becoming a medical transcriptionist is a great home based career option.  As a medical transcriptionist, you will be listening to and typing up dictation from doctors.  Hours for this career can vary, but are mostly on your on time, as you will be given a deadline for the dictations you are given.  Being a medical transcriptionist requires some training, but it is typically a short amount of time and well worth the time and investment.  The typical pay for medical transcriptionists usually begins at $10 an hour, but can quickly rise to $20-$25 an hour.

Customer Service Representative

If you are someone who has good people skills and a friendly voice, you might consider becoming an at home customer service representative.  This job can be both full time and part time, as long as you can dedicate at least 4-5 hours at a time, which is typically what the companies require.  The job entails answering incoming calls from customers who would like to place an order, need an issue or conflict resolved, need help placing an order, have questions about a product, etc.  The job of a customer service representative is to help the customer with what they need.  You would be using the phone and the computer, so the ability to multitask is important.  Income ranges from $8-$20 an hour depending on the company, your experience, and hours available, etc.

Virtual Tutor/Teacher

Another great at home career is a virtual tutor or online teacher.  As a virtual tutor, you are chosen based on your knowledge or expertise on a certain subject and you will provide online tutoring on this subject.  This career is great for someone who only wants to work for a few hours at a time. Typical pay for a virtual tutor ranges from $12-$35 an hour.  Similar to the job of a virtual tutor is the job of an online teacher.  As an online teacher, you would of course need to have a teaching degree or certification in the subject you would like to teach.  You would then teach the class through live web video or through a prerecorded session.  Pay for an online teacher is very similar to regular teachers and is around $30,000 annually, all in the convenience of your own home.
