Nobody pounds the pavement to go out job hunting anymore. In today’s digital age, many companies use an online hiring process to accept applications, gather resumes and schedule interviews with potential employees. Use the following 8 simple steps to make your mobile a job seeker’s dream tool.

Follow these 3 simple steps to create a professional image that potential employers will like.

  1. Set up your voicemail: Potential employers don’t want to hear your favorite R&B song when they call you to schedule an interview. Set up a concise and clear voice mail message, for when you don’t make it to the phone to accept a call from a potential employer. Enunciate clearly, speak precisely and state your name so they know they’ve got the right number.
  2. Assign ringtones: Pick a certain ringtone for all potential employers, and program them into your phone under this sound. That way, you’ll know to get yourself into a quiet place and say “hello” or your name very clearly when you answer the ring.
  3. Keep your phone ready: Carry a charger with you, and keep your mobile charged. You don’t want to cut off a conversation with a potential employer because of a dead battery. You should also keep your mobile updated. Check often for updates and apply them as needed, so none of your apps stop functioning when you’re in job-seeking mode.

Use apps to stay organized, access information quickly and conduct yourself like a professional when you’re job seeking.

  1. Update your address book: Your mobile will very likely come with a built-in address book app. Use this to keep information about the company handy, and keep contact information in one place.
  2. Calendar: Use the built-in calendar program, or download your own, to track appointments. Add job fairs, interviews and reminders so you know your schedule. Employers won’t hire you if you’re late to appointments.
  3. Email: Many email providers have an app that’s designed for use with mobile devices. Use a single address as your professional email, and download the corresponding app. This way, you can get access to this inbox with the touch of a button to easily send and receive mail.
  4. Social media: If you have a LinkedIn or another type of social media profile, download the app to your mobile device. Social media apps are designed to be quick and easy to use, allowing you to get to the pertinent information quickly.
  5. Files: Download FileApp Pro, or a similar app, to get easy access to your files. You’ll want to carry a copy of your resume, references and other job-related files. When your files are stored in one handy place, you can quickly email them to potential employers.
