How Do Online Job Scammers Sleep at Night?

Steven Rothberg AvatarSteven Rothberg

CollegeRecruiter.com uses the corporate version of Gmail — Google Apps for Business — for email in large part because it does an incredible job of filtering out virtually all spam without incorrectly identifying legitimate emails as spam. It is quite rare when we have false negatives or positives, but one snuck through today.

I received the above email earlier this morning and can only shake my head. I’m sure that Flavia Wade and David Lenson are fake names and any replies to this email are probably destined for some identity theft scum but how the heck do these people sleep at night? It is ALWAYS wrong to take advantage of people, but even more so when those people are vulnerable. And anyone who is without a job is a prime candidate to be vulnerable.

I’ve notified email service provide GMX.com about the scam being perpetrated through their system and hopefully they’ll do the right thing by shutting down the account, notifying anyone who sent an email to david.lenson@gmx.com that they may be an identity theft victim or have opened their bank account up to a thief, and notified the legal authorities.
