What it is like to attend Loyola University – New Orleans

The city of New Orleans hosts events like Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, and Mardi Gras. It is also home to Loyola University – New Orleans (formerly Loyola University at New Orleans), located in the uptown section, about 15 minutes away from the downtown area and the French Quarter. The scenic 19 acre campus features a collection of beautiful Tudor Gothic buildings, mixed with modern architecture. LUNO enrolls nearly 5,000 students, including more than 2,700 undergraduates, representing all 50 states and 41 foreign countries.


At Loyola University at New Orleans, incoming students average GPAs are 3.55, and the middle 50% average between 23-28 on their ACTs or between 1,080-1,320 on their SATs. Loyola’s College of Music is fully accredited and is located in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. LUNO offers 60 undergraduate degree and 10 master’s degree programs in five colleges, which include Humanities and Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Business, Music, and Fine Arts and Law. Some of the most popular majors where students want to find entry level jobs are international business, music industry studies, journalism, biology, and pre-medicine; the Communications Department strives for students to get internships. In addition, there are over 40 study abroad programs for undergraduates. About 91% of the LUNO faculty hold PhDs or the highest degrees in their fields, and professors have been recognized nationally and internationally by the Pulitzer Committee, the National Science Foundation, and numerous other professional and scholarly associations.
Loyola University at New Orleans has seven athletic teams that compete at the division one level in the Gulf Coast Conference. Students who live on campus have four residence halls to choose from that house nearly 1,400 students. Over 120 student organizations are offered, including 15 Greek chapters and a full calendar of special events throughout the year, including concerts and celebrations on campus. LUNO is the largest Catholic university south of St. Louis and has been consistently ranked among the top regional colleges and universities in the South. Plus, the Loyola Maroon, the college newspaper, has won the prestigious Peacemaker Award several times.
