College Grads Value Job Security
As recently as five years ago, college graduates placed little emphasis on job security, retirement plans, and health insurance and instead focused on the opportunity to do interesting work and obtain stock options. Thanks in large part to corporate scandals like Enron and Worldcom, that's all changed. According to a Wall Street Journal survey of more than 29,000 new graduates from 129 schools, today's graduates are concerned about job security and benefits. Indeed, asked what elements of compensation they value most, college seniors gave health insurance and retirement plans higher priority than vacations, bonuses and stock options.
Have your priorities changed as a result of the scandals? What were the most important elements of compensation to you in the late 1990's and into 2001? What are the most important elements today?
