Tips and Hints for Job Seekers:
The care you take in preparing your résumé, E-mail and covering letter tells a story about you!
Don't narrow down your stated objective in your résumé, rather specify objectives in your covering letter.
Be sure to specify what position you are applying for or seeking. Remember, many employers advertise more than one position. This will help them.
Be sure to organize your résumé to display your educational background, your experience (not a job description of prior duties, but relevant accomplishments and expertise gained)and your knowledge of, or proficiency in the tools of your trade.
Faxed résumés or e-mail versions often are difficult to read, or are not very presentable. Fax or e-mail your copy to yourself or a friend, to be sure how the product survives the transmission.
Be sure that your family or any other party answering the telephone on your behalf, knows that you have submitted résumés and that they have a script of what you want them to say. Make certain your answering machine message is professional. The first telephone contact by a prospective employer creates a secondary impression, as important as the appearance of your résumé.
When asked about your salary expectations, be honest, even at the risk of not getting this job. Don't low-ball the estimate to try to get the job. You will only cheat yourself by being disillusioned, in time, because you will believe you are not being paid fair value for your services.
