MINNEAPOLIS, MN, September 2, 2009 - In an effort to aid job seekers who are struggling to find employment, CollegeRecruiter.com began back in March 2009, to compile lists of the states that had the most and the fewest internships and entry level jobs posted by employers. The data, which is updated at the beginning of every month, was gathered through a search of each state and the District of Columbia and is meant to serve as a guide to help job seekers estimate the status of the job market where they live.

Some states showed an encouraging increase in the number of internships and entry level jobs posted on CollegeRecruiter.com. Employers in Montana and New Hampshire, for example, increased the number of internships posted on CollegeRecruiter.com by 153 and 105 percent, respectively. Maine saw an increase of 41 percent in the number of entry level jobs posted to the site.

Take a look at these states that also saw a marked increase in the number of internships and entry level jobs posted to CollegeRecruiter.com:

• Kansas - 107 internships (up 39 percent from 77 in August) and 866 entry level jobs (up 13 percent from 767 in August)
• Louisiana - 86 internships (up 34 percent from 64 in August) and 1,058 entry level jobs (up 6 percent from 1,002 in August)
• Ohio - 571 internships (up 45 percent from 393 in August) and 4,252 entry level jobs (up 13 percent from 3,747 in August)

This month, the Washington, D.C. area, including Maryland and Virginia, once again maintains its status quo of more than 10,800 combined listings. Only Virginia experienced any kind of loss in September:

• Washington, D.C. - 923 internships (up 11 percent from 833 in August) and 3,175 entry level jobs (up 2% from 3,113 in August)
• Maryland - 327 internships (up 3 percent from 316 in August) and 2,773 entry level jobs (up 3 percent from 2,687 in August)
• Virginia - 449 internships (down 6 percent from 478 in August) and 3,630 entry level jobs (up 7 percent from 3,391 in August)
