Question:

I work for a well known non-profit organization. Because of my current supervisor, I have experienced a great deal of stress and have even had to see a doctor. I have also witnessed and have documented several accounts of unethical behavior on the part of my supervisor. I would like to leave the company and have talked to my supervisors supervisor regarding this matter. I want to ask for a severence payment. What should I do?

Answer:

Talk to an attorney first. It would likely be best to settle the issue with your employer one-on-one. But seeking legal counsel before approaching your employer will help you think about all the options available to you.

Also, before approaching the subject you may want to study a bit about the art of negotiation. Here's an archive of articles and links that may be of use to you http://myjobsearch.com/cgi-bin/mjs.cgi/negotiating/tips.html.
