•  departments, degrees, universities attended, companies worked for, etc. Keywords are most always nouns - nouns trump verbs in this new mode.

•  The prevailing one-page maximum is no longer an iron clad rule. Although recent graduates may want to limit themselves to a page, most applicants' resumes can be one to two pages, and for some executives two to three pages is acceptable.

•  Make your resume highly specific, targeted to impress a single employer.

•  Don't put parenthesis around telephone area codes.

•  Do not use vertical lines -- use horizontal lines sparingly.

•  Do not use underlining , shadowing, or graphics. However, bolding and italicizing is generally acceptable to most scanners.

Remember: Be creative. Use sample resumes only to help get you started and give you ideas. Don't try to simply insert yourself into one - you won't fit!
