What good is it to spend a bazillion dollars
for high-profile job visibility if your
advertisements read as exciting as the
recipe for boiling water?
This really is an epidemic in the staffing
industry. You only have to go to any large
job board and search for a common position.
For example, say, biology like so:

Some choice responses include

How *much* are these people spending for the opportunity
for candidates to ignore their posts? I'd wager it's
far more than my neverTaken vacation to Disneyworld!
My mom always says, if something is worth being
done, it's worth being done *right*. Job post
advertising should target the WIIFM aspect of
all applicants! "What's In It For Me!" Sure,
your requirements are important...to you! But
they're not the first area of concern for your
*candidates*.
Candidates want to know how they'll benefit from
their next employment assignment. What is the
growth potential? Training included? What's
the health/medical/dental insurance? Is flextime
available? How about childcare on campus? An
inhouse fitness center? Free coffee?
See where I'm coming from?
Effective job posts are one of the most killer
tools you have to win the talent war. You want
to ensure your job post grabs and keeps the attention
of the quality candidates you need.
So how can you ensure your recruiters always
max out their benefits in this arena?
There are several ways. One, assign an employee
to oversee all job posting in all boards. This
can be accomplished rather simply by bookmarking
all of the URLs required, and then visually scanning
the results. You can create a script to automatically
email the manager and recruiters responsible a report
on the effectiveness as well.
If you do not have the time, you can search for
an experienced Internet recruiting consultant to
provide the same service. I've been asked this
many times myself, which is why RISE now provides
this very service (Our Job Post Outpost!) at
http://www.riseway.com/pjobposts.html . Depending
upon the level of service, your job post quality
and effectiveness can be monitored and evaluated
and improved upon for an unlimited number of
job boards. Call us at 877-738-3113 to learn
more.
If you can do this yourself, I certainly urge
you to assign someone to take responsibility for
it. You can dam up the torrent of money flowing
out of your budget via ineffective job advertising,
and turn that into revenue via qualified hires
rapidly.
