Have you ever gone to search engines in search of those mystical beasties,
resumes?
Certainly there are specific ways to pinpoint resumes at
http://www.excite.com . Of more importance, however, are the resources that
abound when you dig juuuuuuuust a little bit deeper.
Let's say that you have a burning, insane desire to locate java resumes.
Visit Excite at http://www.excite.com and search for
java resume
like so:
http://search.excite.com/search.gw?search=java+resume .
When you look at the Web results near the bottom, you'll find such links to
the NJ Java Organization at http://nj.java.org (which alas is no longer
existent - wah), JavaJobs Online at http://javajobs.com/ , resumes from Java
peoples are more. Yes, there are ways to be more precise in this search,
but that's not my objective right now.
Go back to the search results, and look near the top of the page at the
*categories* returned.
There's a category called
Careers > Occupations > Computers & IT > Job & Resume Banks
at
http://www.excite.com/careers/occupations/computers_and_it/job_and_resume_ba
nks/ . You'll find some Java related sites there.
Look towards the left. See that category called "Orgs and Networks" at
http://www.excite.com/careers/occupations/computers_and_it/orgs_and_networks
/ ? Again, more links to associations/organizations, some of which deal
with java.
Go back to the first category search. The second category returned is:
Computers & Internet > Programming > Object Oriented > Java > User Groups
at
http://www.excite.com/computers_and_internet/programming/object_oriented/jav
a/user_groups/ . Over 76 Java groups are returned!!
Scroll to the bottom of the page. You'll see a link called 'People". Click
on that - you'll be brought to a page that shows all the Excite members that
have the word 'java' in their membername at
http://members.excite.com/results?skip=0&type=basic1&key=java%20user%20group
s%20%20 .
Thing is, though, we don't want that. We want people who have an interest
in java! So click on the Advanced search at
http://peoplefinder.excite.com/member_search?search=advanced and put the
word
java
in the textbox next to "Interests/Hobbies: " like so:
http://members.excite.com/results?skip=0&type=adv&origin=pf&and=0&user=&fn=&
ln=&city=&state=&gender=&age=&marital=&key=java
results. And here you'll find 25 or so individuals who are interested in
java.
NOTE!!!!! This does not by any means whatsoever mean you spam these people
with jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!
Instead, think of something you can give away for free (like a career
resource center on your web site, links to java organizations, industries,
certification, etc.). If these people aren't actively looking, don't annoy
them with job offers - instead, offer your resource center for their
benefit.
When you're perceived as a resource, people simply have more reasons to
visit your site.
