Kansas City is the 39th largest city in the United States with a population of 447,306 according to the US Census in 2006. Wichita is the largest city located in Kansas with a population of 354,865 and it was established in 1870. Also known as the Air Capitol of the World, it is a major aircraft manufacturer in the United States. Founded in 1541 by Francisco Vasquez de Loronado, the merchants called the area 'cities of gold' as trades developed throughout the terrains. Vasquez de Loronado operated the trades between the Indians and French settlers. By 1863, Wichita Indians created the first permanent settlement along with many Spanish settlers who returned after the Civil War. Spanish settlers found themselves returning to Oklahoma City due to their Pro-Union ideals in which slavery was indeed, wrong. The population grew gradually as Wichita was officially incorporated in 1870. The liberal government allowed change within the city's vicinity.
The 1900s were a time of change within Wichita as the liberal appeal of Wichita helped the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) make a stand against alcohol in the downtown business district. Carrie Nation, a WCTU member, felt an urge to confront store owners regarding their alcohol policies. Between 1914 -1915, oil was discovered within the city's wells and Wichita became a major oil center within Kansas. Settlers and merchants moved to Wichita from all over the area in hopes of building an empire. Trades and revenue of increased the population within the city, but the biggest achievement was in 1917 when Cessna Comet, the first airplane, was built.
The first aircraft lead to the largest manufacturing age in the United States in 1920-1923. Entrepreneurs invested in the development of aircrafts for the United States military and large contracts created a strong dependence on Wichita's businesses. The 'Air City' continues to grow until today, but the most memorable years were between 1925 and 1947 as four major companies emerged: Swallows, Stearman Aircraft, Travel Air, and Beech Aircraft. The spread of aircraft manufacturers around the country gave its credits to Wichita.

Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky with a population of 701,500 and ranked as the 17th largest city in the United States. Its shipping and distribution industry offers opportunities in sales, marketing, human resources, and computer engineering. It was founded by George Rogers Clark who also founded other sites around the states. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France due to the fact his men were aiding Americans during the Revolutionary War.
The city's growing population began during the 1800s when slave trade started between cities. Over 7,000 residents lived in Louisville building small shops and commerce to help drive revenue and bidders to the city to buy slaves. Louisville was rather successful prior to the Civil War which caused most of its population to flee and grow. The Union officials used Louisville for planning, distributions, and recruiting. After the war, the Confederacy took control of Kentucky and has remained under its influence.
The Civil War did not affect Louisville because battlers were never fought there. Unlike the rebuilding of the US, Kentucky began its track record of success in the shipping and distribution industry. Louisville's ideal location allowed its merchants to ship cargo to both North and South states. The Reconstruction Era drew a number of merchants to the city to build successful businesses. The river's capabilities were taken advantage of until the "Great Flood of '37" where 70% of the city was submerged.
Louisville's population growth did not increase until the 1970s when successful college students and recent graduates infiltrated the city. The flood changed the dynamic make up of the economy as more residents purchased homes in higher elevated areas, known as The Highlands. The housing market experienced a booming success rate during the 1970s as more homes were built in The Highlands. New Orleans is a major porting city in the United States with a post-Katrina population of 273,000. New Orleans is one of the oldest cities in the country with a long history of astounding architecture, cultures, cuisines, and music (birthplace of Jazz). The city has an amazing history ready to be explored by recent college grads and students interested in learning more or living there.
New Orleans' unique style dates back to 1718 when it was founded by the French Mississippi Company. The city was known as La Nouvelle-Orleans, named after Phillippe II, Duke of Orleans, and a Regent of France. New Orleans was conquered by the Spanish Empire and remained under its control for 40 years. The surviving architecture of the French Quarter is still visible and survives the Spanish ruling. By the 1830s, New Orleans became one of the wealthiest and most populated cities in the US. The ports were used for slave trade between merchants which doubled the city's population. New Orleans remained a popular city until the Union conquered it and released slaves. The city was very successful for many years until the beginning of the 20th century when scientists realized its lower elevation made New Orleans vulnerable.
Hurricane Betsy was one small taste of what could happen to the city - dozens of residents died but the inland remained dry. That experience brought numerous engineers in to learn and study the weakness of the levees. Changes did not occur fast enough as nothing could have harmed the city more than Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Hurricane Katrina displaced many residents across the nation leading the largest evacuation in American history. Now, the city is in need of reconstruction, drainage, and population growth. Volunteers from all over the US have been to the city to help remove debris from Hurricane Katrina. Des Moines is the 92nd largest metropolitan city in the United States with a population of 534,230. It is also a major insurance, publishing, and financial center with many internship and entry level positions for new graduates or students.
Des Moines was founded in May 1843 by a captain named James Allen built a fort near Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers connected. New settlers began to populate the city between 1848 and the 1900s. The population hit a peak at 62,139 making it the largest city in Iowa. Soon, the city created a commission government to handle the financial issues of Des Moines. Trades began to develop for many years as the population continued to grow. More settlers and merchants contributed to the successful track record of revenue gains for the next decades.
By the 1970s, the city built several new skyscrapers in its business district: Equitable Building (1924), Financial Center (1972), Ruan Center (1974), Marriott Hotel (1981), Hub Tower (1985), and the Principal Financial Group tower (1990). The business district continues to add more towers within city making it a destination for financial services and tourism.
