JOB SUMMARY:
The Summer Internship Program is a ten week program consisting of various assignments through corporate departments combined with leadership development. Each internship will be assigned to one department for the entire program, but will attend training and development meetings in an environment with other interns. This internship will be in the AMERIGROUP Legal Department to include corporate governance, employment, SEC, provider contracting, non-provider contracting (vendor contracting) and litigation legal matters. The internship will focus on building general legal knowledge, while receiving mentoring and leadership opportunities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Research and Analysis
a. Assists with legal research and memorandum drafting related to securities, mergers & acquisitions, contracts, litigation and SEC reporting.
b. Assists with litigation discovery matters and document review.
2. Reporting
a. Drafts and/or reviews memorandums, agreements, litigation pleadings and other documents.
3. Project Management
a. Assists with the development and monitoring of project schedules and resources.
b. Communicates key areas of concern or risk toward progress and goals.
4. Overall Business Knowledge
a. Acquires an understanding of business processes.
b. Acquires an understanding of the relationship and interdependencies between departments.
5. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Required:
* First or second year law student.
Years and Type of Experience Required:
* None
Years and Type of Experience Preferred:
* General Business Knowledge.
* Related experience in a law firm, corporate or governmental legal department or court system.
Specific Technical Skills Required:
* Proficient with various computer programs including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Access.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to research and knowledge of western law.
* Ability to multi-task.
* Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
* Effective leadership, interpersonal and social skills.
* Thorough appreciation of cultural diversity and sensitivity toward target populations.
