PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide administrative leadership within the Department of Patient Services. Areas of responsibility would include: Center for Professional Excellence ' Professional Practice, Advanced Practice Nursing

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in the implementation of the mission, vision, and values of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

2. Participates in strategic planning development, implementation and evaluation for the Department of Patient Services. Achieves initiatives as outlined in the Medical Center's and the Patient Services Department's strategic plans.

3. Enforces Cincinnati Children's established code of ethical behavior in decisions and actions.

4. Provides leadership and direction for division of responsibility. Manages the selection, development, motivation, evaluation and discipline of reporting personnel.

5. Collaborates with medical and leadership staff to ensure positive patient and staff outcomes.

6. Collaborates with nursing programs in evaluating quality of graduating programs in evaluating quality of graduating clinicians and develop mechanisms to enhance this quality.

7. Facilitates the development and implementation of evidence based practice through research and quality efforts. Incorporates evidence based practice in approaches to administrative problem solving and decision making.

8. Ensures that the nursing delivery model interfaces with the practice model and that work/workflow is consistent within and across practice sites.

9. Assures the ongoing development, implementation and maintenance of shared governance promoting staff empowerment and a positive work environment

10. Participates in the assessment of patient's needs, the organization's capacity to provide care and the appropriate level of care. Ensures that care, treatment and services are available to meet those needs in a timely manner.

11. Continues to assess and improve the performance of care and services provided. Directs performance improvement functions; designs and implements programs which evaluate the efficacy of treatment and patient outcomes.

12. Assures ongoing accrediting and regulatory compliance (JCAHO, ODH, etc.) in an environment that promotes patient safety

13. Promotes process improvement ' patient/family and practice - through the development, refinement and use of quality measures/program evaluation methods as a means of ensuring care continuity and quality.

14. Participates in the development of strategic and departmental goals that promote positive practice and patient/family outcomes.

15. Uses critical and systems thinking in the design and implementation of practice/change initiatives.

16. Creates an environment in which others are setting expectations and holding each other accountable.

17. Promotes positive clinical outcomes through the evaluation and use of information management and technology systems and processes.

18. Promotes both internal and external customer service through the development and implementation of programs and standards which reflect family-centered care.

19. Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

20. Ensures timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information while providing the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information.

21. Assures fiscal accountability for annual operating and capital equipment budgets for division of responsibility.

22. Enhances division performance through the use of effective communication and leadership skills.

23. Promotes profession by participation in professional activities. Represents practice and CCHMC at local, state and national levels through involvement in professional associations and organizations.

24. Maintains currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into work practices and procedures.

25. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Core Competencies: Effective performance of this role requires core competencies in the areas of customer focus, teamwork, job knowledge, and resource management. Job knowledge is demonstrated in the performance of primary duties and responsibilities while the remaining competencies address the manner in which the role is performed.
Organizational Expectations: Supports professional practice. Practices within the Medical Center's policies and procedures and the Division of Patient Services' Standards of Practice. Assures the maintenance and implementation of patient safety standards. Adheres to the Medical Center's values as demonstrated through positive patient/guest relations, positive and effective interactions with staff and peers, and formulating and meeting developmental goals.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Nursing or BSN with a MS in related field required. Earned Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred. Extensive and progressive clinical and administration experience required. Current RN licensure to practice in the State of Ohio.
