Business Development Director

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The business development manager works closely with senior level managers and executives to identify markets, services and/or technologies to enhance competitive position in the marketplace and accelerate profitable revenue growth through synergistic acquisitions, investments, and business alliances.  Specific accountabilities include strategy development working with business partners, target acquisition identification, transaction planning & structuring, integration planning, enhanced due diligence (for both buy side & sell side transactions), financial analytics/modeling, objective/unbiased valuation opinion/counsel, deal negotiation, and execution/close of acquisitions/mergers, and/or divestitures.  On a typical transaction, the director will be responsible for all aspects of the transaction and will carry out tasks by managing a cross-functional team involving persons from our Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Site Operations, Product Management, and Product Development teams.  The role requires the entire business skill set (, strategy, communications, problem solving, etc.).     

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops an in-depth understanding of the strategic plans of assigned vertical market and/or products and technologies
  • Jointly identifies partnership candidates in working sessions with Business Unit teams
  • Independently investigates current/adjacent spaces for partnership opportunities, synthesizes potential opportunities based on attractiveness and readiness, and maintains up-to-date profiles on a short-list of the most attractive & promising opportunities (generated internally or in response to proposals by potential business partners)
  • Assesses strategic fit, working closely with the sales and marketing team
  • Summarizes competitive position of potential business partners and key issues
  • Evaluation value creation potential, including a financial model and pro forma
  • Calibrates key risks, including sensitivity for potential returns
  • Directs discussions and investigative efforts to evaluate the potential for a win-win arrangement, spanning all aspects of domestic and international mergers/acquisitions and alliances
  • Build relationships, executes Confidentiality Agreements, prepares Letters of Intent
  • Coordinates and implements due diligence processes for potential transactions 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS undergraduate degree in Engineering, Sciences, Finance, Accounting, or Economics
  • 5+ years corporate and/or consulting experience in information technology or related industries.
  • Experience in general management, product management, product development, consulting, mergers and acquisitions, business development, corporate strategy, finance, accounting or investment banking.
  • Retail Distribution Market a big plus.
  • Strong skills in strategic and quantitative analysis, project management, negotiation, communication and leadership; including demonstrated experience to structure and disaggregate problems, identify key value drivers, and quickly model complex issues 
  • Ability to directly or indirectly influence and lead cross-business unit and/or cross-functional teams
  • Communication and presentation skills to create and deliver conclusion-oriented
  • Effective resource management; excellent project management capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, supervise/manage teams, and/or outside professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA preferred with three to five years experience in relevant work areas
  • Experience in mergers & acquisitions, strategy, and/or corporate development roles.
  • Four or more years of strong investment banking, corporate mergers & acquisition, venture capital, and/or consulting experience; including demonstrated experience building pro-forma cash flow & income statements and performing valuation analysis.
  • Strategy consulting, general management, international, and/or other cross functional experience/background
