Everyone who has a job also has a boss who they have to work with. In order to keep the job it is a requirement to get along with the boss. This may not seem easy at times. There may be the differences of opinion or your boss's attitude may make it difficult to work with.

The notion of timing in a job search depends on a lot of complex, interdependent factors. That said, there are certain patterns that cross most industries and professions. Here are the prime job search seasons.

Well, this is it. 2007 is almost over, and a new year is on the way. For me, this year brought mixed emotions.

One one hand, I experienced joy in seeing two of my friends each get married; in one of the weddings, I was a groomsman. On the other hand, I experienced sadness when my grandmother passed away. Overall, it has been a good year because God has blessed me with life, health, and strength, as well as, good family and friends.

What about 2008? Don't forget it's a leap year, so that means 29 days in February. More importantly, Americans will elect the next president of our country. That reminds me; I need to start researching the candidates I may be voting for. My New Year's Resolutions are the following:

Get Reorganized-Clear out the clutter in my room and in my mind

Be a Better Listener-If you're not always talking, you might learn something

Concentrate on the Positive-Don't allow negative people or things to be a distraction in your life

Don't Talk About It, Be About It-Instead of telling other people what you will do, go ahead and do it

So, cheers to making it a great 2008!

Happy New Year!

I could sit here and start rattling off random, "good sounding" characteristics (such as ambition, boldness, drive, motivation, etc.), but that does not really help you or me. Instead, I will tell you what I believe makes a "successful entrepreneur."

First, a successful entrepreneur can do the impossible.

The Internet is one of the most frequently used job hunting tools. Prospective job seekers can respond to ads and post their resumes on job sites. But though every company posting a job opening on the "Big 3" job sites - Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, and HotJobs.com - is looking for qualified candidates, responding to these ads is essentially sending a cold resume that is guaranteed to be among one of thousands.

Follow These 5 Ideas to Make it Easier

It has been said that the toughest job you'll even do is the search for a job. It is very stressful and very hard. It doesn't have to be if you follow these ideas in this article.

Idea 1: Know where the great jobs are listed.

Blood is pumping through your veins. Cold sweat brushes from your temple down your jaw. You could feel your heart signaling distress as you grit your teeth in anxiety. Your boss is angry, and he wants to see you, NOW.

Beginning a new job can be a time of great excitement, anxiety, and uncertainty. As the first day of your new job approaches, you may wonder if you will be able to fit in with your co-workers. You may also wonder how you will enjoy working with the new company.

Working for an Abusive Boss is Bad for Your Health

Some people are lucky and work for great bosses. Others dread going to work every day. How does abuse affect productivity? In a recent press release, researchers at Florida State University announced that they had answers to this question.

It's the most wonderful time of the year and along with the cheer and celebration comes the yearly office Christmas party. The office Christmas party can be a time of fun and good cheer where you can get to know your office co-workers on a more personal level.

Whether you have recently lost a job, or you just want to change the jobs, searching for a job can be tough and you can become easily discouraged. It is important to find the right job for you and not to rush into the wrong job because you feel pressured to take that one.

I like the scheduling feature for our entries on the website. I have used it for the last three weeks and thought more of my entries should have been done this way. It saves you time by automatically having CollegeRecruiter.com publish your writing on a given day without actually being online.

The scheduling feature also allows you to plan around your own schedule; if you can't post an entry next week, you can schedule it to be published the week before. Last week, I was busy helping a friend move furniture and getting ready for his wedding. I did not have time to write an entry, but that was fine because the previous week, one had been already scheduled to be published.

Overall, the scheduling feature can make you a more consistent writer even when you are not actually creating an entry.

Merry Christmas!

How did I get here? Why do I do the things I do? These are two important questions that we sometimes never look into. Are you a freshman that will next year be a sophomore or a senior getting ready for graduate school?

One of the most talked about episodes of the popular TV show Seinfeld was the office holiday party where Elaine did her funky dance. Her weird gyrations were hilarious, but, alas, embarrassing for her over the next few weeks.

Do you need more money? Do you have debts to pay? Would you like to contribution more to your retirement? Are you sick and tired of the same cost of living raise? One of the best answers to improving your financial picture is merely to make more money.

Office Christmas/Holiday parties can be fun. A party sounds like, well, a PARTY. But when it's your office party, it's really more of a work-associated event, and so you still need to have your "work" face on.

A job change is an exciting and stressful event. New tasks, new surroundings, new coworkers, and a new boss all at once, as well as a potential delay in income can make for a rough time. Follow these guidelines to help you to settle in - and excel - in record time.

1) Take an Interest - Your coworkers already know each other, and as the "new guy," you're as unfamiliar to them as they are to you.

I have a secret about job seeking. I love to write cover letters. I hate the formality of resumes and the need to write a certain way or in a certain format, but cover letters offer a more personable approach to the job search. I will admit that my first attempts at cover letter writing were not pretty. My language was awkward and words were jumbled on the page, although to be fair, I wrote my first cover letter before I wrote my first resume. My love of cover letters is a more recent thing. Cover letters can seem irksome after searching for the perfect action verbs to describe filing papers and answering phones, but for those with a love for language, they can also be an excuse to write a mini essay about why you would be perfect for any job.

As with any good essay, a good cover letter begins with research. Researching into a company is a good idea for every step of the job search because although you want the company to want you, you should also consider if the company would be a good fit for you. For cover letter research, I would recommend searching for something that the company has accomplished, or a group that they have worked with or for that speaks to you in some way. For example, through some research I found out that a literary agency I was seeking employment from worked with an organization that worked to empower women. Since I had volunteered with Planned Parenthood and worked as a residential advisor in college, I wrote about how I admired the agency’s work with this organization. While I later decided that the job was not the right fit for me, my interviewer commended my thoughtful and attentive cover letter.

Writing a cover letter reminds me of my semester end suck-up to my professors. At the end of the semester, while handing in my final paper or exam, I would always take the time to remind my professors of all that I learned in their class and how I can continue with that knowledge and also thank them for such a great experience. My professors were left with a positive reminder of my capabilities and that I was thinking critically of the work we had done together. All this extra thinking will take as much time as you want to devote to it but the result of a winning cover letter will be worth the extra effort. Good luck!

We've all heard the expression "starving college student." In spite of financial aid, grants, scholarships and support from parents, many college students struggle to make ends meet.

A part-time job can help with living expenses.

Part-time Jobs Can Multi-task for You

Part-time jobs are a large part of a college student's life. There are two commodities most college students are short on, time and money. So how does a college student juggle their precious study time with the all-important need for money?

The Unforeseen Perks of a Non-Traditional College Experience

Provided By: Associated Content, Inc.

I started college with all intentions of having the perfectly typical experience. I’d read all the catalogues, checked out the advice articles, and knew exactly what to expect. I’d applied to three schools and got accepted to all, so the choice was mine.

In Montclair, New Jersey, one college freshman says she felt much safer walking back to her dorm with the new GPS tracking device on a school-issued cell phone. The device is designed to alert police of the whereabouts of a student if the cell phone is not turned off in 20 minutes.

If the phone is not turned off, an alarm goes off at the campus police station, where a computer identifies the student's location, a photo of them, as well as other personal details.

The college is one of the first U.S. schools to use the GPS tracking device; this and other security technology is increasingly being used on campuses after the Virginia Tech tragedy this past spring. The tracking device on the cell phone includes a timer or, in an emergency, activates the GPS technology to immediately alert the police. Around 13,000 undergraduates attend the school, but it is reported that students only turn their timers on five to ten times a week.

Since the new system has been in full operation, which is a little more than a year, cell phone alarms go off about once a month. Normally, these are false alarms because a student forgets to turn off the timer on the cell phone. What a great idea! You can never be too safe on a college campus these days.

In college, you're a little more idealistic about the world. You are cynical in notating all the things wrong with the world, yet believe most of these problems can be solved - and you are in the generation that will solve them.

Then you graduate with a cap and gown.

In today's competitive job market, finding a decent job has become more difficult than ever before. Careers for graduates with a degree in forestry are readily available in the United States especially in those states with large stands of timber. Many careers for graduates with a degree in forestry lead grads to jobs requiring extensive work in the great out doors. But some careers for graduates with a degree in forestry can also take their holders behind a desk. A Guide to the Resources You Need to Get Published

With the holidays here, apparently more and more workers are calling in sick. Sadly, a lot of these people are not sick, but want extra time to complete their holiday activities. One researcher in Philadelphia says this behavior could be harmful to any hope of a career long-term.

He says making managers suspicious is not smart, but rather simple communication with them may lead to an agreement between both parties concerning the necessary time off for the employee during the holiday season. The assistant vice president of human resources in one hospital says it offers many options available for employees who need extra time off during the holidays such as flexible scheduling and paid time-off programs. The hospital asks, though, that workers plan their time off early on.

This vice president added that new policies have reduced the number of employees calling in sick in recent years. He gives the credit to the hospital for understanding employees' lives outside of work for satisfying their employees with the arrangement. As in any workplace, when healthy workers call in sick, it creates stress on others to cover for them and on managers who must find replacements for them.

The vice president warns employees who call in sick when they're not that they are "potentially falsifying records", which may lead to a problem later on. "It's a very short-term strategy for the employee, because it certainly can catch up with them."

I, too, agree because you never know when you will truly need a sick day. Not to mention that it's just the wrong thing to do.
