Legitimate Work From Home/Online Data Entry...How Can You Tell?

Over the last year during my job searches I've often come across those job ads that say, "Work From Home!" Most of them are start your own business packages. However, recently I came across a website that supposedly supplies you software that provides company names, forms, etc. that you would need to find those jobs. Of course the catch is that the software costs between $50-$200. I know there has to be a better way of finding legitimate online data entry jobs and such. I did read someone's post a while back touching on the subject of online data entry jobs, and how they are becoming more and more popular. However, I have not had much luck in finding these jobs myself. How do I know what's legit and what's not? Is asking me to pay $50-$200 for software that will supposedly provide me the guaranteed opportunity for online data entry jobs legitimate? Or are all of those in that ever growing list under the category for, "too good to be true"?

Smart cookie that you are, you definitely know the category for these types of ads. Steven pointed out in an earlier comment to someone else that it's usually a franchise than wants you to pay money up front for getting involved in the franchisor's business. From what I know, any business that wants you to pay them money to work for them is not a legitimate employment situation nor a work from home business from which you'll gain economic security.

But I have to ask why you interns are looking at these work from home ads. You have some great accomplishments and some solid goals. Are any of you focusing on pursuing even entry-level opportunities that are related to your chosen career goals. I'd love to see you not only succeeding in getting work but creating steps to your star.

I really think the majority of these ads are total scam. if they are asking you for money to get into some "system" then it's no good. I can see paying for software, or consulting, but only if you do your research and see that there is a community there and things are really happening. Just remember, too good to be true usually is.
