No, I will not like fries with that

Lately, it seems I see "Now Hiring" signs wherever I go. Not to say this is a bad thing (the job market in Oklahoma has always been bad), but most of these places are your typical greasy high school minimum wage jobs. All the fast food places, retail stores and dry cleaning businesses all need your help. Deep down inside, I feel like these places are haunting me....following me. They want me there.

"Come on, we know you're broke and need our measely $5.50 an hour."

Currently, I'm unemployed and I'm trying really hard not to fall victim of these type of jobs. First of all, I feel like I'm too old and secondly, I'm fed up with them. I just left another retail job a few months ago. Unfortunately, I thought my internship would fill the void I usually have to work, but my internship is only part-time and I only show up once a week.

Where are all the good part-time jobs? The nice sit-down job where I answer phones or type. A nice filing or receptionist job. Where are they? Why must I wake up every morning with my parents telling me to put in an application for "Little Caesar's" before it's too late?

Last summer I had the most miserable job at an amusement park. Since then, I vowed to never work a job like that again. Unfortunately, keeping my dignity is making my money run low.

Your frustration is understandable in many regards. I'd like for you to read what two of your fellow blog interns in order to see some of the successes they share with us. One of them is Kimberly Archibald (click on her link at
http://www.collegerecruiter.com/insightblog/authors/index.php?author=Kimberly Archibald ) and the other is Dorian Nunley (click on his link at http://www.collegerecruiter.com/insightblog/authors/index.php?author=Dorian Nunley ).

Kimberly is handling several major issues simultaneously, one of them being the job search after graduation. Kimberly hints at her having developed a plan of action and following it through. I especially appreciated the philosophy she shared with us in her last post. Please read it.

Dorian is the networking king! He is saying the right things to the right people and getting amazing doors opened for him so that his job search efforts for next year are next to zero.

Yet another person who is having tremendous success at networking (and we may have lost because of it) is Samantha Taylor (see her posts at http://www.collegerecruiter.com/insightblog/authors/index.php?author=Samantha Taylor ).

What am I saying in pointing you to these three people. I'm saying use the network you aleady have to find things. Take an upbeat attitude to what's available at this time. It's merely what's on the front burner. You just never know what's still back in the kitchen!

Please network with your fellow bloggers. You can help one another tremendously.
