We are in search of a detailed, time sensitive Financial Analyst, who will perform financial analysis on our product and infrastructure investments.  This position will be located at our office in Monterey, CA.
 
Essential Accountabilities: 
  • Support the monthly accounting close through analysis of the general ledger and various financial systems.  Report results to management.  Perform account reconciliations and analysis of accounting issues.

  • Develop and maintain strong budgeting and estimating processes for assigned areas of responsibility to maximize company profitability.  Proactively alert management of significant variances to plan.  Critically evaluate financial performance against established benchmarks.  Provide monthly analysis of variances from budget.

  • Prepare various financial documents and commentary for CTB senior management and McGraw-Hill corporate review.

  • Support Sarbanes Oxley documentation and perform Test of controls for area(s) assigned. 

Investment Accountabilities:
  •  Prepare, analyze, forecast and budget product and infrastructure projects on a timely and accurate basis. 

  • Participate on various technology projects to ensure achievement of plan as well as compliance with corporate policy, accounting standards, and established processes.

  • Monitor financial activities in support of company's prepublication projects to ensure achievement of financial targets and projections as well as ensure compliance with GAAP.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.

  • 2-3 years experience as a Financial Analyst with similar duties. 

  • Detail-oriented with strong knowledge and experience in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • 2 years of cost accounting structure experience.

  • Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel required

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others is essential.

  • Must possess good communication skills and be deadline oriented

  • Must be able to manage several projects at one time.  Project schedules and backup must be complete, accurate and follow proper audit standards.  

  • Ability to solve complex conceptual problems; and implement problem solutions proactively. 

Preferred:
  • CPA and/or MBA
