The Most Important Skill Needed for Any Career
As a Success Coach, I interview and work with a number of business owners. These are people from all walks of life. They come from different ethnic backgrounds, geographical areas, and are from a variety of age groups (from the late teens to the 80's). They have different talents, skills, and abilities.
One of the very first steps I take in understanding the business is to first get an understanding of the business owner themselves. You see, often, a business is reflective of the owner. When the business struggles financially and struggles to meet growth projections, it is often reflective of the owner and their ability to communicate effectively. Employees often misunderstand the mission or the task at hand and as a result most people are frustrated and constantly looking for a better polace to invest their time.
Think about your job! Look at your past jobs? What was the environment like? Whas the boos a good tradesman or a good communicator? What do you feel would make the most difference in teh success of those businesses? Well, what I find is it comes down to a very important skill. I feel, based on the thousands I have worked with, the most important skill one should have is sales skill.
These owners often lack sales skills. Part of the sales skills is the ability to communicate. They lack the ability to involve their employees and close them on doing what needs to be done to grow the company. They fail to overcome resistence of employees and often struggle in presenting their ideas and concepts.
But it is not just the owners. It is also the employees who lack sales skills. You see, when it comes to growing a business, a sale must be made for a business to have cashflow. To pay the employees, overhead, and other expenses, the business needs a steady stream of cashflow. These sales are made not just by sales people but also by all employees and their interaction with the customer.
Sales skills are the most important skills an employee can have. they must not only know what the sales process is but also how it works. they must possess the basic fundamental sales skills, which relate to communication.
Such skills will help the employee better interact with customers, co-workers, and anyone who they come in contact with as an employee. Think about it, if you have the basic selling skills, you can better negotiate and even influence through your career. But if you are timid and afraid of sales skills, you will be pushed around and others will control your career.
Now I am not talking about manipulative sales skills. I am talking about consultative sales skills, which are sales skills that help you communicate on an effective level. Sales skills are about effective communication and helping those you come in contact get what they want.
Focus on understanding what skill strengths you have in the sales process and you will be well on your way to a gaining more control of your future. Learn about effective sales. regardless of whether you work in middle management, a factory job, customer service, or are on the excecutive staff of a company, sales skill is the most important skill needed for any career.
