Before you go and get all the training or education it requires, or before you go job-hunting for that career, you need to try it on.
This is exactly analogous to shopping at a clothing store and trying on different suits (or dresses) that you see in their window or on their racks. Why do you try them on? Well, the suits or dresses that look terrific in the window don’t always look so hot when you see them on you. The clothes don’t hang quite right, etc.
It’s the same with careers. Ones that sound terrific in books or in your imagination don’t always look so great when you actually see them up close and personal. Continue Reading

Check out some tips in the following post to help you establish your personal brand with everyone in your search.When it comes to personal branding, you can invest all the time and effort you want in to creating well-worded profiles, resumes, cover letters, and “About Me” websites, but if you don’t back up your written communications with constructive interactions, all of that work will be for nothing.

Avoid Age Discrimination in Your Job Hunt
December 04, 2008 by Candice ASo, you’re not a 20-something, right out of college? Not a spring chicken when it comes to the working world? Are you worried about age discrimination in your job hunt?
Recently, I contributed my 2 cents to a discussion on Linkedin about the pros and cons of listing a date specifying when you received your degree on your resume. (Thus, presumably revealing your age.) The questioner had been told that he should remove degree dates for any degrees ten years or older.
Coincidentally, last week, I worked with two clients in their 30′s, both of whom asked about removing graduation dates. Maybe they are all getting advice from the same source!
