IT Expanding Demand, Expanding Salaries

The Information Technology sector continues to expand so far in 2012. Investment continues both in infrastructure and in staffing. Software developers, Health IT, and Security Cleared IT are in high demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projected that from 2008 to 2018 Computer Software Engineers 283,000 jobs will be added. This adds to the competition for talent.

Along with the increased competition for IT talent, are increased salaries, according to the 17th annual Redmond Salary Survey. Salaries stagnated for some years but many employers are seeing the wisdom of salary increases to current employees in order to stay competitive and retain technical talent. Continue Reading

CIOs Say IT Workers’ Attire Becoming More Formal

Don’t think IT employees care about how they dress at work?  Think again.

Hoodies and T-shirts may be wardrobe staples in some IT departments, but chief information officers (CIOs) say moving up the career ladder often requires a little more polish. In a recent Robert Half Technology survey, more than three in four (76 percent) CIOs said the way someone dresses at least somewhat influences his or her ability to move up within the organization’s IT department. Half of CIOs Say Their Firms Have or Will Offer a Mobile Application in 2012

“There’s an app for that” may apply to nearly half of U.S. businesses before the year is over, a new survey by Robert Half Technology shows. Twenty-seven percent of CIOs polled recently said their companies already offer a mobile application, while another 22 percent said they plan to offer one in 2012.
