Hiring Expected More Slowly in Second Quarter of 2012

Job seekers should expect more hiring, as we head into Spring 2012; though at a reduced rate.

Hiring in professional fields is likely to continue rising in the second quarter but at a slower pace than forecast for the first quarter, a new Robert Half survey shows. A net 2 percent of executives interviewed for the Robert Half Professional Employment Report plan to add full-time staff in the second three months of 2012, down from 10 percent last quarter. The biggest trend in the survey is the increase in the number of respondents who anticipate no change in hiring activity: 89 percent versus 78 percent last quarter. Continue Reading

Survey Finds Increased IT Hiring Projections

There is some good news for IT job seekers in the coming year.

Technology executives expect information technology (IT) hiring to continue in the first quarter of 2012, according to the just-released Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report. In the latest quarterly survey, 20 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) said they plan to expand their IT departments, and 10 percent expect cutbacks, for a net 10 percent projected increase in hiring activity. Career Fields That Offer Good Pay in a Recession

While the economy may still be on the down side, there are areas where job seekers can find employment with good pay.  Consider the following career fields, which could open the door to entry level job opportunities or allow you to create a fresh start.

Healthcare – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $23.02) – As healthcare workers get older, there will be a need to replace them, which will increase job openings.  Home care aides and physical therapists are expected to be in demand to care for the aging population.

Accounting – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $32.42) – Someone is always needed to keep a watchful eye on all of the “green”.  There are accountants who can make up to six-figure salaries.

Information Technology – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $43.35) – With technology continuing to grow, it should be no surprise to see an increase in job opportunities in this field.  For example, job growth is expected to have an increase of 45% by 2018 in designing and securing computer networks.
