Hiring Expected More Slowly in Second Quarter of 2012
March 12, 2012 by William FriersonJob seekers should expect more hiring, as we head into Spring 2012; though at a reduced rate.
Hiring in professional fields is likely to continue rising in the second quarter but at a slower pace than forecast for the first quarter, a new Robert Half survey shows. A net 2 percent of executives interviewed for the Robert Half Professional Employment Report plan to add full-time staff in the second three months of 2012, down from 10 percent last quarter. The biggest trend in the survey is the increase in the number of respondents who anticipate no change in hiring activity: 89 percent versus 78 percent last quarter. Continue Reading

Career Fields That Offer Good Pay in a Recession
August 11, 2010 by William FriersonWhile the economy may still be on the down side, there are areas where job seekers can find employment with good pay. Consider the following career fields, which could open the door to entry level job opportunities or allow you to create a fresh start.
Healthcare – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $23.02) – As healthcare workers get older, there will be a need to replace them, which will increase job openings. Home care aides and physical therapists are expected to be in demand to care for the aging population.
Accounting – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $32.42) – Someone is always needed to keep a watchful eye on all of the “green”. There are accountants who can make up to six-figure salaries.
Information Technology – (Avg. Hourly Earnings: $43.35) – With technology continuing to grow, it should be no surprise to see an increase in job opportunities in this field. For example, job growth is expected to have an increase of 45% by 2018 in designing and securing computer networks.
To learn about other career fields that offer good pay in a recession, see the source below.
Even though you may not find the career opportunity you’re searching for at the moment, there are fields where you can make a good living, even in a recession.

You’ve heard of video resumes, but how about video job postings?
July 20, 2010 by Steven RothbergOne of the most interesting organizations that I’ve run across recently is Deluxe Corporation. They’re headquartered in suburban Minneapolis and were founded way, way back in 1915. Most people likely aren’t familiar with Deluxe’s business and many of those who who think they are, well, aren’t.
If you’ve ever written a paper check, then you probably know Deluxe. They’re the king of paper check printing but we all know that’s a dying business as more and more of that business moves to on-line bill payments and other forms of electronic commerce. Deluxe saw this coming and about a decade ago began to transform its business. Just about everyone would agree they needed to adapt or perish, so the question wasn’t really if they should adapt but how they should adapt. Deluxe made a brilliant decision by recognizing that one of its greatest strengths was that it had a HUGE number of small business clients who knew and trusted Deluxe. So rather than looking to adapt based upon its existing products or even the skills of its current employees, Deluxe decided to adapt to fill a need that many of its clients had: information technology.
If you’re a small business and need a web site developed or a web site hosted or other information technology needs, you should know that you can and should consider Deluxe to fill those needs. But think about the incredible transformation in the types of employees they now need to hire. Rather than hiring a whole lot of pre-press and printing folks, they now need to hire a whole lot of information technology folks. So Deluxe needed — and has — gotten smart about hiring information technology people really, really quickly. Want proof? Have a look at this Talent Sourcer job posting video that they recently posted to their Facebook Fan Page. Keep going like this, guys, and you’re going to thrive for another 95 years.

Is a Career in Information Technology Right for You?
November 19, 2008 by Candice ADo you enjoy setting up and troubleshooting computer systems and networks? If so, a career in the rapidly growing field of information technology could be ideal for you. There are many different types of job opportunities for skilled IT workers. Some of the most popular entry level positions include: software implementation and support, network technician, telephone technical support, and web development.
Most large companies have one or more information technology specialists on staff. Individuals who work in these types of jobs typically need to have a well rounded background in all aspects of IT, as they are responsible for setting up new systems, troubleshooting software and hardware problems, maintaining network connectivity, training end users, and performing various other tasks necessary for keeping the company’s computer equipment and systems fully functional at all times.
There are even more job opportunities with companies that create or market computer software, hardware, and related systems. Organizations that provide information technology products and services, such as those that create and install software applications, provide IT training, and manufacture computers and related equipment often have a large number of IT professionals on staff. In these types of organizations, information technology workers typically specialize in one, or just a few, different aspects of the company’s operations.
