Do you always send Thank You’s to Interviewers? Why or why not?
December 15, 2009 by facebook career blogBelow is an essay response to the question.
No, I haven’t always sent thank you notes after interviews. In fact, I can only recall two occasions on which I wrote – by hand – thank you notes to interviewers. I got the job both times. Still, I didn’t develop the habit. Although the practice has been around for a long time, it’s only in recent years that it has become as essential to a successful job search as great resumes and cover letters.
I think writing thank you notes has become so important in recent years because there are so many highly qualified candidates competing for the same jobs. Candidates who send thank you notes will most likely end up with the job offers, since, according to surveys conducted by job boards and staffing agencies, most candidates still neglect to take the time to write them. And candidates who opt for handwritten thank you cards will probably be hired ahead of competitors who send emailed thank you messages.– Submitted by C. How important is work/life balance to you while seeking employment? How do you convey the need for this balance to employers?
November 27, 2009 by facebook career blogFor me work/life balance is very important. For me, it is vital to have sufficient downtime so that I can “recharge” enough to continue being productive. If I am working practically 24/7, I will get burned out, and, additionally, that kind of stress will affect my health; and we all know a sick worker is NOT a productive worker. So, I think that for companies that require round-the-clock service they should implement shifts, which would help staff to be able to have a normative (rather than unpredictable hours) workday (or work night), and allow for people to balance work and life.

Who had the biggest impact on your career choice? Why?
November 03, 2009 by facebook career blogLois Lane had the biggest impact on my career choice because as a teenager, I aspired to be a female version of Woodward or Bernstein and Lois Lane, though a fictional character, embodied those characteristics. Later, I discovered the joy of writing positive, human interest stories and found that I much prefer writing about the good things that people do than about the bad. It’s much more rewarding.
