Indonesia, the hardest hit nation, said its toll – now at 80,000 – could reach 100,000, and officials began to acknowledge that the number of dead may never be known with precision, because the towering waves that smashed into Sumatra island swept entire villages with their inhabitants out to sea.

Quit your job and find happiness…
by jim stroud
At 28, John Doyle was an overworked New York investment banker on the fast track. By most measures, he was a success. But he was also miserable. So during a semiannual review 2 1/2 years into the job, he simply quit. “Almost immediately I lost 35 pounds,” says Doyle. For four months, he did little more than relax, rollerblade through Central Park, and read books. “Honestly, it was one of the happiest times in my life,” he says.

Be careful before you pay to play…
by jim stroudThere are some legit firms in the career business, but many are nothing but a racket. Check them out carefully before spending a dime. Companies hire outplacement firms to help laid-off employees find new jobs. Their services are usually simple, cookie-cutter methods that are also found for free in books at your local library. December 22, 2004 by jim stroud
From the company website…Finally, the drudgery of corporate life has been captured in a play set for adults! Bob, Joe, Ted, and Ann spend eight hours a day, five days a week, at tiny desks in tiny cubicles in a giant room packed with countless similar cubicles in a giant building filled with countless similar rooms.
Each set has one 2-3/4″ posable plastic figure and all the necessary plastic parts to build a classic corporate cube: four walls, desk, chair, file cabinet, in/out box, phone, and computer. Comes with a sticker sheet of decor for your cube, complete with graphs, charts, screens for the computer and pithy office posters. Also includes a job title sticker sheet so you can create a convoluted and meaningless position for your employee.

Because sometimes, even cupid needs backup…
by jim stroudTwo friends are at a party when one sees a potential love interest across the room. Immediately, the other friend swoops into action, making an introduction and helping to keep the conversation going — all so the buddy can score a phone number. It’s long been a ploy in the flirting arsenal. But now, those who ride shotgun for the sake of love have a name: They are the “wingmen” and “wingwomen” of the dating world.
“Every guy’s gotta play the role of the wingman at some point in his life. It’s the unwritten guy code,” says Steve Dybsky, a 25-year-old Chicagoan who works in advertising and has been a wingman for friends — and had them do the same. It’s become such a popular concept that people are even posting ads online, looking for wingpeople to accompany them on a night on the town.Could this be a new career for you?
