Your Music Offends Me

One of my coworkers likes to listen to gospel music while she works. It's not very loud, but I'm an atheist and I believe that playing this kind of music at work violates the separation of church and state and my right to not believe in such things. Is there anything I can do to resolve this situation?

How does music keep you from believing what you choose to believe? You have a choice--to be offended or not to be offended; to believe or not to believe. If music disrupts the work environment that's one thing--but then ALL music should be banned, not selectively based on genre or content (although anything with vulgarity, profanity, dehumanization of others or encouraging violence or hatred is an exception). Plus, do you work in a government office? If not, where does the "state" come into play?

State HOW specifically, and you may have a stronger case. That's just my opinion.

No conceivable church-state issue unless you work for the government. There have been some hostile-environment religious discrimination cases, but that would take more than quiet music played by one employee that reasonable people would not find that offensive.

Should the employer police everyone's radios? What else might someone find offensive?

Is it more important to get along with coworkers or to avoid hearing anything that challenges your atheistic worldview?
