Is There a Way to Lower College Costs?

What are some things I can do to save money on college expenses? I have already applied for FAFSA and scholarships and other financial aid; I want to know what I can do to save on the overall cost, please.

One of the ways many college students have found to save money is to go online to buy their books. You do not have to buy your books at the campus bookstore at full price. Books can be very expensive, especially in engineering and healthcare. Buy used and then also don't forget to sell your used books online at the end of the semester. If you go to the bookstore, they give you very little for a used book, yet mark it way up when they sell it again. Good luck!

So much of the college expense is attributed to living expenses. Tuition, books and fees are really just a part of the actual expenses.

The following are some cost cutting ideas:

Buy used books or buy books online. I have blogged on this topic.

Take advantage of the activities on campus. The cost of these activities are covered through your Student Activity Fees which are mandatory. You may as well take advantage of them.

Get an on campus job. They pay well and the working hours are adjusted according to your class schedule. When you are not in class and not studying, you are probably spending money. So you may as well be making money! Besides, it looks good on your resume.

Be an Entrepreneur. If you have a skill such as fixing computers, formatting reports, web pages etc... Set yourself up as a small business. You can wash people clothes, cut hair, babysit professors kids...

Don't get in the habit of a cup of gourmet coffee a day. That adds up.

Buy snacks at the grocery store. Make a weekly/monthly trip to Walmart.

Budgeting your money is one of the big challenges you will have in college but this is a life skill that you will need. Take it on as a challenge and feel good as you work your way towards your success,
