The resume is a critical tool in your arsenal to get an opportunity. Your first step is to have it done well. This is not the market to have any of the tools in your tool kit working suboptimally.
Please read my document on 4 steps to a killer resume in the article section at coachdwain.com I provide key criteria for your resume. This will ensure that the most important elements are captured.
To ensure your best foot is being put forward, it may be worthwhile to consider getting a third party who is in the business to review it . Preferably someone who is familiar with the functional area or industry that you are pursuing.
Most importantly, ensure that the document and cover notes you send out are the best representations of your abilities. These are the tools that have the greatest exposure to potential opportunities. Spend the extra time and effort to make certain they represent you well.
Remember, the role of the resume is to get a phone call which will lead to an interview. If your resume is outstanding, you increase the likelihood of advancing to the next step more often.
Good luck!

Don't waste your money. Resumes are a poor intro into a company. Yes you need one, but with hundreds of applicants, what hiring manager has time to review all of the paper? You must do something different than everyone else. Why not just show up at the company to see if there are any openings (obviously you know they have one) and maybe fill out an app on the spot. Following the herd in this economy will result in continued frustration for you. Try a different approach.
I would recommend thinking of your resume as only one tool in the job hunting process. With as much recruiting and human resource activity moving online AND the availability of powerful social media tools to showcase yourself, you should be able to communicate all that you need and position yourself well when interviews are possible and hiring is happening.
You may not be getting interviews for any number of reasons (more research needed) including things out of your control so do your best with your SocialMediaCV and personal brand building before spending more time and resources on a resume writer.
