Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky with a population of 701,500 and ranked as the 17th largest city in the United States. It was founded by George Rogers Clark who also founded other sites around the states. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France due to the fact his men were aiding Americans during the Revolutionary War.

The Civil War did not affect Louisville because battlers were never fought there. Unlike the rebuilding of the US, Kentucky began its track record of success in the shipping and distribution industry. Louisville's ideal location allowed its merchants to ship cargo to both North and South states. The Reconstruction Era drew a number of merchants to the city to build successful businesses. The river's capabilities were taken advantage of until the "Great Flood of '37" where 70% of the city was submerged.

Louisville's population growth did not increase until the 1970s when successful college students and recent graduates infiltrated the city. The flood changed the dynamic make up of the economy as more residents purchased homes in higher elevated areas, known as The Highlands. The housing market experienced a booming success rate during the 1970s as more homes were built in The Highlands. Louisville's population created a wave of excitement for new residents in need of entry level positions and interns in the large corporations located in the city.
