Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky with a population of 701,500 and ranked as the 17th largest city in the United States. Its shipping and distribution industry offers opportunities in sales, marketing, human resources, and computer engineering. It was founded by George Rogers Clark who also founded other sites around the states. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France due to the fact his men were aiding Americans during the Revolutionary War.

The city's growing population began during the 1800s when slave trade started between cities. Over 7,000 residents lived in Louisville building small shops and commerce to help drive revenue and bidders to the city to buy slaves. Louisville was rather successful prior to the Civil War which caused most of its population to flee and grow. The Union officials used Louisville for planning, distributions, and recruiting. After the war, the Confederacy took control of Kentucky and has remained under its influence.

The Civil War did not affect Louisville because battlers were never fought there. Unlike the rebuilding of the US, Kentucky began its track record of success in the shipping and distribution industry. Louisville's ideal location allowed its merchants to ship cargo to both North and South states. The Reconstruction Era drew a number of merchants to the city to build successful businesses. The river's capabilities were taken advantage of until the "Great Flood of '37" where 70% of the city was submerged.

Louisville's population growth did not increase until the 1970s when successful college students and recent graduates infiltrated the city. The flood changed the dynamic make up of the economy as more residents purchased homes in higher elevated areas, known as The Highlands. The housing market experienced a booming success rate during the 1970s as more homes were built in The Highlands. Louisville's population created a wave of excitement for new residents in need of entry level positions and interns in the large corporations located in the city.

Students interested in fun and excitement in Louisville, Kentucky will not be disappointed by their sports programs and exhibits. New Orleans is a major porting city in the United States with a post-Katrina population of 273,000. New Orleans is one of the oldest cities in the country with a long history of astounding architecture, cultures, cuisines, and music (birthplace of Jazz). The city has an amazing history ready to be explored by recent college grads and students interested in learning more or living there.

New Orleans' unique style dates back to 1718 when it was founded by the French Mississippi Company. The city was known as La Nouvelle-Orleans, named after Phillippe II, Duke of Orleans, and a Regent of France. New Orleans was conquered by the Spanish Empire and remained under its control for 40 years. The surviving architecture of the French Quarter is still visible and survives the Spanish ruling. By the 1830s, New Orleans became one of the wealthiest and most populated cities in the US. The ports were used for slave trade between merchants which doubled the city's population. New Orleans remained a popular city until the Union conquered it and released slaves. The city was very successful for many years until the beginning of the 20th century when scientists realized its lower elevation made New Orleans vulnerable.

Hurricane Betsy was one small taste of what could happen to the city - dozens of residents died but the inland remained dry. That experience brought numerous engineers in to learn and study the weakness of the levees. Changes did not occur fast enough as nothing could have harmed the city more than Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Hurricane Katrina displaced many residents across the nation leading the largest evacuation in American history. Now, the city is in need of reconstruction, drainage, and population growth. Volunteers from all over the US have been to the city to help remove debris from Hurricane Katrina. Recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in engineering can gain tremendous experience while helping residents rebuild their city.

There is still fun, excitement and a taste of the New Orleans culture tourists can dig in at Bourbon Street and the French Quarters in downtown. American tourists love to travel up and down these streets embedding themselves into the lifestyles of the Big Easy. Other tourists attractions include Magazine Street (historical shops), and the St. Charles Avenue (historic Pontchartrain Hotel). Baltimore is the largest city in the state of Maryland with a population of 631,366 and is the 19th largest city in the United States. Recent college graduates and students interested in living in Baltimore will find the high-tech industries growing within the city. The successes of Baltimore's industries are dated all the way back to 1706 when the first ports were created.

The 17th Century was the beginning of a heavy porting system created in Baltimore to drive revenue from tobacco port of entry. These trades lasted until the mid-to-late 18th Century as sugar-production increased from the Caribbean. Baltimore took advantage of this to sell sugar and tobacco to other colonies. Many of the settlers found the British taxation intolerable and created events that lead to American Revolution. Revolutionists moved to the city to develop riots and treaties banning British merchants from purchasing from its colonies.

After the treaties were signed, Dr. John Stevenson and Jonathan Plowman Jr. established a port for indentured servants from England during the 1750s and 60s. Other problems arose for Customs officer Robert Mason was chased from the city after trying to seize the Speedwell ship with its cargo. Mason first fled to Annapolis then to Boston to stay away from the townsmen. Nothing seemed so serious to Baltimore residents until the War of 1812 when the British attacked the city. The British armies moved through the ports of Baltimore while its residents fought hard to defend their city. Historical references claim that residents threw pan, pots, buckets, and other materials after they ran out of ammunition. The battle was known as "Battle of Baltimore".

The population grew phenomenally when the commerce grew and businesses emerged in the ports. Importers and exporters generated a lot of jobs for Baltimore's residents while helping revitalize its downtown. The Great Fire of Baltimore in February of 1904 destroyed over 1,500 buildings and caused the city to reconstruct its city. By the 1950s, Baltimore became the 6th largest city in the country with a population of 949,708. The recent develops included the revitalization of the Inner Harbor, construction of the Harborplace, and The National Aquarium of Baltimore.

Bridgeport, Connecticut is the fifth largest city in New England with a population of 137,912. Its history of success dates back to the American Revolution where it was the city of privateering. Entrepreneurs and businessmen found Bridgeport to be the best location to build a solid foundation in fishing and farming.

Fishing and farming was a prosperous business venture during the early years of Bridgeport because it is located in deep Newfield Harbor. Industrious men took on whaling and ship building during the mid 19th Century as Bridgeport's population quickly grew. The whaling industry was a large source of revenue for the city until the late 19th Century when the famous Bridgeport Mill opened. Bridgeport Mill's manufacturing of sewing machines, carriages, saddles, ammunition, brass fittings, milling machine, and brassieres increased the city's importance in New England.

The success rendered in the late 19th Century grew into a more prominent role by 1930 when Bridgeport had over 500 factories within its city. Its prominence dragged between the 1970s and 1980s as its deindustrialization caused high unemployment and loss of population. Residents experienced a draw back in progress because the factories were closing, drug problems arose, and pollution created expensive environmental damage. Bridgeport could not afford to repair the problems as the city suffered lost of interests by the rest of Connecticut. The unemployment left some part of the area abandoned and very few were considered 'ghost towns' because no form of population existed.

Bridgeport continues to rebound from the unfortunate fate in the 1980s. The transition from unemployment entices many recent college graduates and students interested in internships in the new city. Bridgeport's cost of living is fairly low, renovations are in progress for residential and retail suites being built down town, and it offers an opportunity to work with new business owners. The expansion of the business district ensures a number of new jobs offered for current residents. Students interested in moving to Bridgeport can contact these businesses for more information regarding employment.

Students with families or sports interests will find Bridgeport a recreational delight with all of its parks, playgrounds, beaches, and attractions within the city. Indianapolis is the 2nd most populous capital, 3rd largest in the Midwest, and 13th largest city in the United States with a population of 791,926. The trail to Jacksonville's success dates back to 1562 when the French settled in the land naming it Fort Caroline.

The French settlements continued until 1565 when a Spanish army attacked the French settlers causing them to retreat from the city. Fort Caroline was renamed to Fort San Mateo until the French returned and destroyed all of the Spanish settlers/defenders within the city. These tensions continued until St. Augustine experienced the same raid from Dominique de Gourgues. After these establishments ended in sheer battle, St. Augustine became the most important settlement in Florida. The city remained a Spanish asset until its addition to the United States in 1821. Florida Legislature Council chartered the land into a town on February 9, 1832.

Jacksonville's developments did not explode until after the Civil War during Reconstruction and the Guilded Age. The city's tourism grew phenomenally until it was hit with cases of yellow fever that killed a number of residents. The yellow fever was not the only problem Jacksonville had to deal with - a huge fire demolished the whole business district on May 3, 1901, known as "The Great Fire of 1901". Over 13,000 buildings were constructed during 1901-1912 and tourism arose once more during the 1910s as New York based producers started to flock to Florida for a winter break. This little movement gave Florida the nickname, "The Winter Capital of The World".
